Historical Reenactment: "Pesca alla Tratta"
The "tratta" is a traditional form of fishing that has not been practiced commercially for decades. It remains deeply fascinating, both for the movements of the fishermen—which resemble a silent, rhythmic dance—and because, unlike other fishing methods, it takes place right before the eyes of the public. The process involves taking a net out to sea in a small boat and then slowly hauling it back to shore by hand. Two teams of "trattaroli" work in perfect coordination, moving in a synchronized rhythm along the beach.
Like all activities involving traditional vessels, the reenactment is held under the supervision of the Cesenatico Coast Guard (Capitaneria di Porto), ensuring total safety and compliance with regulations. This vital partnership has been key to the success of the Cesenatico Maritime Museum in its mission to preserve and promote local maritime heritage. Although this fishing method is now prohibited by law, the Museum—which coordinates the dedicated group of volunteers—has successfully obtained an exceptional waiver from the Ministry of Fisheries.
2026 Schedule: This year’s events will take place on May 28, June 25, July 30, and August 27, 2026. The reenactment starts at 5:00 AM at the Ponente free beach (in front of the Congrega Velisti Cesenatico).
Please note: In the event of unsuitable weather or sea conditions, the reenactment may be canceled at the last minute without prior notice.
